India USTR Talks

A delegation led by the Assistant United States Trade Representative(AUSTR) visited India to explore and investigate the potential for increasing bilateral trade and economic engagement with India under the new dispensation.

This delegation held bilateral talks with the Indian delegation. The Indian delegation was led by the Additional Secretary, Department of Commerce and also included other senior officials from other Government of India Ministries.

The talks were cordial and aimed at providing a new impetus to bilateral trade and commercial ties, in line with the mandate given by the earlier meeting held between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the US President Donald Trump during their meeting at Osaka, Japan on 28 June 2019.

In the meeting, both the sides had discussed the scope of bilateral trade and commercial ties. They also agreed to continue their discussions to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes that are aimed to further the growing economic relationship between the two countries and address mutual trade concerns.

India is a major trading partner of the US. In the year 2017 bilateral trade (in both goods & services) grew by 9.8% to reach USD 126.1 billion. India’s exports to the US stood at USD 76.7 billion while USA’s exports to India stood at USD 49.4 billion
