FAME India Scheme

The Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari in a written reply to Rajya Sabha on Monday, 2nd December 2019, informed about the performance of FAME India Scheme that through demand incentives around 2.8 lakh hybrid and electric vehicles (xEVs) have been supported and about 425 hybrid/electric buses have been sanctioned to various states under the FAME India Scheme since the inception of Phase-I in 2015.

 

Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid and) Electric Vehicles in India (FAME) scheme was launched in the year 2015 as a part of the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan (NEMMP) 2020, by Department of Heavy Industry under the Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Transportation, Government of India.

The scheme was launched to promote the manufacturing of hybrid and electric vehicles technology in the country to ensure sustainable growth of the same.

The phase-I of the scheme was launched for 2 years from 1st April 2015 but was extended up to 31st March 2019.

NEMMP is a National Mission document with the vision and roadmap for the faster adoption of hybrid and electric vehicles and their manufacturing in India.

Phase-II of the scheme was implemented for three years started from 1st April 2019. The total estimated funds required for the IInd phase are Rs 10,000 crore.

The focus in the IInd phases will be on private buses, the scheme planned to support 10 Lakhs e-2W, 5 Lakhs e-3W, 55000 e-4Ws and 7000 Buses (e-2W means electric two-wheeler, e-3W means electric three-wheeler and so on). This phase will also focus on establishing charging infrastructure across the country.
