Maharashtra Government has decided to use stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) law against the hoarders and black marketers.
State government’s decision comes after the state machinery has started large-scale raids on suspected hording of pulses. Those found guilty will booked under MCOCA and various other sections under the Essential Commodities Act.
Stock limits on pulses, edible oil seeds and edible oil also have been imposed as per the directives issued by the Union Government to meet the large demand of essential commodities.
About MCOCA
- The law enacted in 1999 by Maharashtra state to combat organised crime and terrorism in the state.
- It was enacted to remove drawbacks of legal framework which were inadequate to curb or control the menace of organised crime.
- The law has stringent and deterrent provisions including in certain circumstances power to intercept wire, electronic or oral communication to curb the menace of organised crime.
