The International Crops Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) is an international organisation involved in agricultural research for rural development. Its headquarters is located at Patancheru, Hyderabad. Set up in 1972, it received special status from India as a UN Organisation operating in the Indian territory. This makes it eligible for immunities and tax privileges. It was recently roped in by the Odisha government for providing capacity-building initiatives for the state’s ‘Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups’.
