Which district in India has given birth to maximum Bharat Ratnas?
Ratnagiri district of Mahasratra holds the distinction of being the native place of three Bharat Ratna awardees, namely Maharishi Karve, Dr. Pandurang Vaman Kane and Dr.B.R. Ambedkar.
Maharishi Karve was preeminent social reformer and a pioneer in promoting women’s education and the right for widows to remarry in India. He was awarded Bharat Ratna, in 1958 at the age of 100 years.
Dr. Pandurang Vaman Kane was an Indologist and Sanskrit scholar. He was rewarded Mahamahopadhyay “The greatest among the great teachers” and served as Vice-Chancellor of Bombay University, He was honored with Bharat Ratna in 1963.
