Female Beauty in Harappan era versus later

How the Indus Valley idealized female beauty, it can be seen from the famous bronze dancing girl found from Harappa . Slender body , an armful of bangles in one hand , simple headdress are the prominent features found in this statue. In fact it will not be wrong to say that this girl has a boyish look

On the other hand , the female Ideal of beauty in post-harappan period is completely different. This is best visible in the features Didarganj Yakshi statue. Broad hips, slender waist , full breasts , deep set navel and heavy dress are the prominent  features of this statue . These are exactly the qualities that have been extolled in erotic texts like Kamasutra  and are visible in statues from the Vrikshikas of Sanchi Stupa to the maithuna couples of Khajuraho .
