Suktagen Dor

Suktagen Dor is an archeological site of Indus Valley Civilization located on Iran border in current Balochistan province of the Pakistan. It is considered to be the westernmost site of the Indus Valley Civilization.

Discovery

Sutkagan Dor was discovered in a small scale excavation in 1875 by Major Edward Mockler.

Location

It is located on Makran Coast near Gwadar on Iran Border; around 55 kms from the shore of Arabian Sea on the Bank of Dasht River.

Importance

Suktagen Dor was an important coastal town; and is Excavations at Suktagen Dor have revealed a twofold division of the township. It was originally a port and later cut off from the sea due to coastal upliftment. It is believed that Sutkagen Dor might be on the trade route from Lothal in Gujarat to Mesopotamia and was probably heavily involved in the fishing trade similar to that which exists today in the coast along Baluchistan.
