Srebrenica massacre

Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina had declared independence from Yugoslavia on October 15. 1991. This Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina was formally recognized by the European Community on 6 April 1992 and by the United States on 7th April 1992. The Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina was the predecessor of today’s Bosnia and Herzegovina, a country in South east Europe. After independence, three major groups Bosniak Muslims, Bosnian Serbs and Bosnian Croats indulged in fierce struggle for territorial control. The dominant Serb forces – the military, the police, the paramilitaries and even villagers systematically ransacked the Muslim houses and killed the men systematically. Srebrenica was one such territory. In 1993, the UN had declared the Srebrenica a safe territory, but by 11 July 1995, more than 8300 Bosniak Muslims were killed in systematic attacks by the Bosnian Serbs & paramilitary forces. The Srebrenica massacre is the only genocide episode as deemed by the UN war crimes court and the International Court of Justice, which followed by a break away from Yugoslavia.
