Sampoorna Nellu Krishi

Kerala’s Mayyil village panchayat’s ‘Sampoorna Nellu Krishi’ campaign has revived paddy cultivation in the region through use of scientific farming practices.

Total Rice Campaign

Total Rice Campaign or Sampoorna Nellu Krishi campaign was launched by Kerala’s Mayyil village panchayat in Kannur district in 2016. It used methods like monitoring soil health, formation of paddy farming groups, financial support from NABARD, formation of FPOs, preparation of SOPs, farming calendar etc.

Mini-Rice Mills

One of the notable features of this campaign was the provision of mini-rice mills to the farmers. The farmer producer organisation, Mayyil Rice Producer Company (MRPC), provided mini-rice mills to the farmers at a fixed rate of 9 INR as charge for converting 1kg of paddy into rice. 55 such mills are being operated at present. Each of the mill is powered by a 3 HP motor and can convert 120kg of paddy into rice in an hour.

Krishi Vigyan Kendra

The Krishi Vigyan Kendra played an important role in guiding the farmers about the use of scientific farming techniques. KVKs are agricultural centres set up by the Indian Council for Agricultural Research at district levels. Some of its functions include technology demonstrations, assessment, capacity development, testing services, etc.
