Ramthal Marola Project

Ramthal Marola project is the name of Asia’s largest drip irrigation project which involves 2,150 kilometres of pipeline will cover around 60,000 acres of the drought-hit Hungund, at Ramthal Marola area of Bhagalkot district in Karnataka. The main aim of the project is to utilise the backwaters of Almatti project.

The project was envisioned by the Krishna Bhagya Jala Nigam Limited (KBJNL) and executed by Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Limited with technical assistance from Netafim, an Israeli corporation. It is the first project in India that is developed with Israeli drip irrigation technology. The project is also known for the country’s first community-based drip irrigation system.
