Quick Fact Sheet : Magadha Dynasty and 16 Mahajanpadas

1. The kingdom of Magadha roughly correspond to the modern districts of Patna and Gaya in Bihar plus some parts of Bengal.
2. Magadha Empire was established by Vrihadratha. Jarasandh was son of Vrihadratha.
3. Magadha was one of the sixteen Mahajanapadas or states in ancient India. Giribraj or Rajgrih was capital of Magadha.
4. The first king of Magadha dynasty was Bimbisar and and he was founder of Haryaka Dyansty. He was a great patron of Buddha. He was contemporary of Buddha. His first wife Kosla devi was daughter of king Kosal and sister of Prasenjit. His second wife Chellana was a lichchhavi princes of Vaishali. Third wife was Vaidehi and fourth wife was Khema who ws a daughter of chief of Madra. His son Ajatsatru succeeded him.Kunik was a nick name of Ajatshatru. Ajatshatru was succeeded by his son Udayin. Udayin was a of Jainism.
5. The 16 Mahajanapada and their capitals were as follows:
Anga : Champa
Magadha :Girvraj , Patliputra
Kashi : Banaras
Vatsa : Kausambi ( Allahabad)
Koshal : Shravasti
Sursen : Mathura
Panchal : Ahikshatra, Kampilya
Kuru : Indra Prastha
Matsya : Bairath
Chedi : Shaktimati
Avanti : Ujjain , Mahishamati
Gandhar : Takshshila
Kambauj : Hatak or Rajpur
Asmak : Potan or Potani
Wajji : Vaishali or Lichchhavi
Matsya : Kushniara or Pawa
6. The last ruler of Haryak Dynasty was Nagdashak.

Shishunag Dynasty: Major Kings were : Anirudhdha, Mumnd, Nagadashak, Shishunag
