Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs)

PHEVs are the vehicles that run on a combination of gasoline or diesel engine and electric motor and large rechargeable battery. These vehicles can be recharged from an outlet and they can be driven using only electricity.  They also work as conventional non-plug-in hybrid when the battery is emptied.

One of the biggest impediments for the development of PHEV technology in India is the inability to create power stations at regular intervals. For the PHEVs to serve the purpose of acting as pollution free vehicles they have to be recharged frequently to ensure that they are not required to be run as per conventional means. So, only if people are assured of availability of regular charging stations they will be able to adopt this technology.
