Navroz

March 20th 2020 marked the worldwide celebration of the Persian New Year by various Zoroastrian, Muslim and Bahais communities.

About the Festival

Navroz or Nowruz is the Iranian New Year/ the Persian New Year. It is celebrated on the Spring Equinox Day (either on March 20th or 21st) across the world by various ethno-linguistic groups. It marks the first day of the month Farvardin in the Iranian Calendar Year.

Navroz in India

The festival is celebrated in India apart from other countries like Iran, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, China, etc. The custom was introduced by the Parsi Zoroastrian community who had migrated in from the Persian region and settled in western parts of India.

International Nowruz Day

Over 300 million people celebrate the day every year. In 2009, the celebration was listed in the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. The United Nation had recognised the Iranian New Year as the International Nowruz Day in 2010.
