Nao Robot

clip_image003Nao robots are the humanoid robots developed by the French company Aldebaran Robotics. It first came into new in 2010, when Nao replaced Sony’s robot dog Aibo as the robot used in the Robot Soccer World Cup (Robocup) Standard Platform League (SPL), an international robotics competition. Nao was also used in RoboCup 2008 and 2009. In 2010, NaoV3R was chosen as the platform for the SPL at RoboCup 2010. It was recently in news (late 2011) because of its Academics Edition, which was made available for universities and laboratories for research and education purposes. Nao is the first versatile and programmable humanoid robot to be used as a standard research platform and an educational tool for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) students, in Middle East countries.
