KNOSSOS and RESCOP

KNOSSOS and RESCOP, are two new computer programs that a research team from the Heidelberg-based Max Planck Institute for Medical Research developed for the fast and accurate reconstruction of neural networks. They mapped more than 100 neurons – and they did so faster and more accurately than with previous methods. Until now, mapping this vast network posed a practically insurmountable challenge to scientists. It is claimed that the vast network of brain, with 70 billion cells, can now be mapped and decoded swiftly and accurately with these two programmes. (nature.com, September 2011)
