India’s Biosphere Reserves under MAB Network

India’s Biosphere Reserves under MAB Network Out of the 18 Biosphere Reserves designated nationally, so far seven viz., Nilgiri (Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka), Gulf of Mannar (Tamil Nadu), Sunderban (West Bengal), Nanda Devi, (Uttarakhand), Pachmarhi (Madhya Pradesh), Similipal (Orissa) and Nokrek (Meghalaya) have been included in the World Network of Biosphere Reserves of UNESCO.  The nominations in respect of Khangchendzonga (Sikkim) and Achanakmar-Amarkantak (Chhattisgarh & Madhya Pradesh) Biosphere Reserves are under active consideration of the UNESCO for inclusion in the world Network. Body (NCB) has been constituted by the Ministry.
