Mahatma Gandhi has been the epitome of ethical conduct for generations of people. His works and his personal conduct has been an inspiration to me in terms of ethical conduct. Gandhi was firm in his beliefs and periodically tested his self-control and the strength of his principles. He was firmly committed to his principles despite being attacked and castigated for them. Real-life events from Gandhi’s life have helped me hold onto my convictions. Gandhi’s teachings regarding non-violence and satyagraha helped me take the high road instead of stooping down to violent actions on multiple occasions. Gandhi’s willingness to test his own commitment to his personally held ethical principles has shown me the power of determination. When I was tempted to give into peer pressure and resort to copying from notes during an exam, the stories of Gandhi’s unwavering commitment helped me act ethically, and not resort to cheating.
