The Government of India conducts the Khelo India Youth Games every year to hunt talents from different parts of India. The sports event is seen as the best gateway for Indian athletes to enter international events and bring pride to the nations. The fifth edition of the Khelo India Youth Games is to start in January end. The State Government of Madhya Pradesh is to host the event. For the first time, Kayaking and Canoeing are introduced in the event.
About Khelo India Youth Games 2022
- To be held in eight cities namely Maheshwar, Balaghat, Jabalpur, Gwalior, Ujjain, Indore, and Bhopal in MP
- Kayaking and Canoeing were introduced for the first time. The Government of India has been pushing the Kayaking and Canoeing sports recently. A world-class Kayaking Canoeing academy is being built by the union government in Tehri, Uttarakhand
- More than 474 athletes are to participate from MP
- Other major participants are Karnataka, Maharashtra, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, and UP
- From Tripura 13 athletes will participate and it is the smallest contributor
- Abhinav Shaw and Swati Chaudhary are to participate in the event. They are international pistol shooters
- Other games to be held: Swimming, Wrestling, Boxing, Rowing, Volleyball, Canoeing, Judo, athletics, and kayaking
- At Indore, tennis, Kabaddi, table tennis, hockey, weight lifting, basketball, and football are to be held
- Gymnastics, Kalaripattaya, Badminton, and hockey are to be held in Gwalior
