Workshop-cum-Exhibition on Bamboo conducted in Jammu
With the aim of creating opportunities for the sustainable development by promoting bamboo cultivation in the newly formed union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, a two-day workshop-cum-exhibition was organized on 11th and 12th January 2020 by the government of India’s Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region and the North Eastern Council along with the Government of Jammu and Kashmir. The workshop-cum-exhibition was inaugurated on Saturday in the presence of Lt. Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, G.C Murmu by the Union Minister of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Dr. Jitendra Singh in which various technical sessions were organized on the potential and uses of bamboo from housing & construction to making handicraft, agarbatti and several other products. Experience on uses of bamboo and cane in the North Eastern Region of India was shared during interactive sessions with participants by the representatives from the Cane and Bamboo Technology Centre(CBTC) of Guwahati, Assam and live performance of bamboo and cane artists was also organized for the participants during the two-day workshop-cum-exhibition.
