Union Cabinet: MoU signed between India and Israel in Health and Medicine approved

On November 4, 2020, the Union Cabinet chaired by PM Modi approved the Memorandum of Understanding signed between India and Israel in the field of Health and Medicine.

Key Highlights

The MoU covered the following

  • To exchange and train medical doctors and other professionals
  • To assist in setting up of health care facilities
  • To exchange information related to medical devices, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics.
  • To share expertise against public health actions and climate risks.
  • To promote mutual research

The countries will encourage their representatives to participate in seminars, workshops, symposia and conferences.

COVID-19

In April 2020, Israel supplied advanced medical equipment to help India fight COVID-19. India in return sent five tonnes of medicines including Hydroxychloroquine. Also, a special team of defence experts, researchers arrived from Israel to join hands with Indian researchers in developing rapid testing solution of COVID-19. Under this, the researchers are now developing a COVID-19 testing kit that will produce results in less than 30 seconds.

Artificial Intelligence

India and Israel are deploying medical imaging Artificial Intelligence all over India to increase Tuberculosis screening capabilities in rural areas. According to WHO, more than 3.6 million people with TB are missed by health systems every year.

In order to achieve this, the Health Net Global of Apollo hospitals and Zebra Medical vision of Israel will receive 4.9 million USD from India-Israel Industrial Research and Development and Technological Innovation Fund.

India-Israel

Out of all the sectors, India and Israel have long history and strong cooperation in the field of agriculture. The countries jointly establish Centres of Excellence in India. These centres impart trainings to farmers and shares knowledge about advanced farming practices. The Israelian experts are directly involved in the programme.

Recently, on November 2, 2020, a foundation stone was laid to build a Centre of Excellence for Vegetables in Khetri, Assam.
