IFSC BILL

  • Parliament has passed the International Financial Services Centres Authority Bill, 2019
  • The Bill seeks to set up a unified authority for regulating all financial activities in international financial services centres (IFSCs) in the country.
  • It was passed by Rajya Sabha on December 12 and Lok Sabha on December 11.
  • The first IFSC in India has been set up at Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT) in Gandhinagar

CONSTITUTION (126th) AMENDMENT BILL

  • Parliament has passed the Constitution (126th) Amendment Bill
  • The Bill seeks to extend reservation to SCs and STs in Lok Sabha and state assemblies by another ten years
  • The Bill was passed by Rajya Sabha on December 12 and Lok Sabha on December 11
  • Given for the past 70 years, the reservation was due to end on January 25, 2020
  • Reservation given to Anglo-Indian community has not been extended in the new bill
  • The bill would now be sent to states for ratification by 50% of the assemblies before it comes into force

CENTRAL SANSKRIT UNIVERSITIES BILL

  • The Lok Sabha passed the Central Sanskrit Universities Bill, 2019.
  • The Bill seeks to upgrade three deemed Sanskrit universities into Central universities
  • They are: Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, Bhopal, Sri Lal Bahadur Shastri Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeeth, New Delhi and Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeeth Tirupati
