Supreme Court appoints three news judges

The apex court elevated Chief Justices of three high courts as judges of the Supreme Court, enhancing the strength of the court to 28.

The three new judges are:

  • Justice M Yusuf Eqbal
  • Justice Venkategowda
  • Justice Vikramjit Sen

Earlier, when the Supreme Court collegium had recommended the appointment of the three judges, the government had raised certain issues and had asked the court to reconsider the decision.

But the collegium, headed by the CJI, had reiterated its recommendation. As per the present system, once the collegium reiterates its stand, government has to appoint the judges.
