Sudhir Pratap Singh appointed as DG of National Security Guard

Senior IPS officer Sudhir Pratap Singh has been appointed as the Director General (DG) of counter-terrorism force National Security Guard (NSG).
He is a 1983 batch India Police Service (IPS) officer of Rajasthan cadre. Prior to this appointment he was serving as the ADG of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

About National Security Guard (NSG)

  • NSG was established in 1984 as a Federal Contingency Deployment Force to tackle all facets of terrorism in the country.
  • It is the nodal agency for counter-terror and counter-hijack operations. Besides, it is also tasked to protect high-risk VVIPs.
  • NSG operates under the oversight of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. Its motto सर्वत्र सर्वोत्तम सुरक्षा (Sarvatra Sarvottam Surakhsha); English: Omnipresent Omnipotent Defence.
  • The NSG members are also known as Black Cats because of the black drill cotton coveralls and balaclavas or helmets they wear.
