President launches ‘Bichitra’: An online collection of Tagore’s work
President Pranab Mukherjee launched ‘Bichitra’, an online collection of Rabindranath Tagore’s works. He praised the initiative saying the website would inculcate the essence of humanity and eternal values of civilisation as propagated by Tagore in his creations.
About Bichitra:
- ‘Bichitra’ is sponsored by the Centre on the occasion of Tagore’s 150th birth anniversary to promote research on his work worldwide.
- The Web site, in English and Bengali, will have all variant texts and all specialized tools needed by Tagore scholars.
- Chief components on the website will be digital images of all available manuscripts and all important printed versions totalling 47,520 pages of manuscripts and 91,637 pages of printed books and journals.
