Oxford Dictionary names ‘Climate Emergency” as word of the year

Oxford Dictionaries declared the word Climate Emergency as the word of the year 2019.

Climate emergency is defined as a situation when urgent action is required to stop the negative impact of climate change and to avoid irreversible environmental damages.

Oxford University Press, publisher of the Oxford English Dictionary announces an Oxford Dictionaries U.K word of the year and a separate Oxford dictionaries US word of the year since 2004. From 2013, Oxford university press has been announcing one combine word of the year for both the UK and the US.

“Toxic” was the 2018 Oxford word of the year.
