NHRC notice to Government of Rajasthan over Kota Children Deaths

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), India on Friday, 3rd January 2020 has issued a notice to the Chief Secretary of the Government of Rajasthan over media reports about the death of above 100 children in the month of December 2019 at Kota districts government-run hospital. Under the notice, the commission has asked the Chief Secretary to submit a detailed report that includes the steps taken to address the issue within the next four weeks from the date of the notice. The commission has also asked to ensure that due to a lack of health facilities and infrastructure at the hospital, such deaths of the children should not occur in the future.

As per media reports, within 48 hours between 23 December and 24 December last month, ten children died and more than 50 percent of the medical equipment installed in the hospital are not working or defunct.  Apart from them, the hospital also lacks basis cleanliness and infrastructure facilities.
