National Consultation organised by NITI Aayog

“Realizing the vision of population stabilization: leaving no one behind’ is the title for the National Consultation organised by the Government of India’s policy think tank, NITI Aayog. The National Consultation will be conducted today, 20th December 2019 at the NITI Bhawan in New Delhi in partnership with the Population Foundation of India(PFI).
Subject matter specialists, experts and senior officials will discuss various means and ways by which Family planning programmes and India’s Population policy can be strengthened.
The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi on the occasion of 73rd Independence Day of the country on 15th August 2019 emphasized on the vision of attaining population stabilization in India. NITI Aayog has been working to address key gaps in the country’s family planning programmes, and the recommendations from the national consultation are expected to offer constructive points for it. NITI Aayog will try to address regional disparities such as the inter-departmental convergence, demand generation, adolescents and youths quality of care and access to contraceptive services under the family planning programme. Recommendations expected to emerge from the National Consultation are: Strengthening the quality of care, to increase the basket of contraceptive choices, to address socio-cultural barriers that exist towards contraception, making population stabilisation and family planning programme a national priority.
