N. Srinivasan appointed as the first Chairman of ICC
N. Srinivasan has been appointed as the first chairman of the ICC after its 52-member council approved a controversial overhaul of the body’s administrative structure.
Amendments to the ICC’s Memorandum and Articles of Association at the Annual Conference were approved by the council.
Srinivasan, who is also defunct President of BCCI, has been in controversy related to IPL 2013 match-fixing scandal. He has been barred by the Supreme Court of India from carrying out his duties as BCCI president due to ongoing investigations into the match-fixing allegations relating to the 2013 edition of the IPL.
However, after the apex court declined to stop his appointment to the ICC position, path was clear for his elevation to the newly-created post. The restructuring will also hand major executive decision-making authority to the “Big Three” of the game — India, Australia and England.
From 2016, the ICC Board, which will continue to be the primary decision-making body, will elect the ICC Chairman for a 2-year term.
