Jeevan Raksha Padak Series Awards 2019 to 54 Persons

The President of India, Ram Nath Kovind has approved to confer the Jeevan Raksha Padak Series of Awards,2019 to 54 persons. The award series consists of three categories: Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak (conferred to 7 persons), Uttam Jeevan Raksha Padak (8 persons) and Jeevan Raksha Padak (39 persons). This year Five awards are to be given posthumously.
Jeevan Raksha Padak awards, a branch of the Ashoka Chakra series of Gallantry awards, were instituted in the year 1961. The award is given for meritorious acts of human nature in saving the life of a person in incidents like accidents, electrocution, natural calamities or rescue operation in mines. Along with a lump sum monetary allowance, a medal, certificate signed by the Union Home Minister is being presented to the awardees. The recipients of Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak are provided an allowance of Rs 1,00,000 while allowance of Rs 60,000 and 40,000 are provided to the winners of Uttam Jeevan Raksha Padak and Jeevan Raksha Padak respectively.
