Jamaica’s Toni-Ann Singh crowned Miss World 2019

Jamaica’s Toni-Ann Singh was crowned as Miss World 2019 at a beauty pageant held in London, UK. She won the coveted Miss World title for the year 2019 after beating her contenders, Ophely Mezino from France and Suman Rao from India. She received her crown from Mexico’s Vanessa Ponce de Leon, the winner of Miss World 2018. The event was hosted by British television personality Piers Morgan, who was also the head judge of the event.

France’s Ophely Mezino was adjudged first runners-up. India was represented at the annual beauty pageant by Suman Rao India. She was declared second runners-up (3rd) while.

Suman Rao, who is from Rajasthan, had earlier won Femina Miss India World 2019 title in June. She is a Chartered Accountant student hailing from Rajasthan, was crowned Miss India World 2019 in June this year.

India had won the last Miss World title was in 2017, when Manushi Chillar represented the country. This 2017 win had come in 17 years after Bollywood actor Priyanka Chopra had bagged the title in year 2000.

About Toni-Ann Singh

The 23-year-old Toni-Ann Singh is born to Indo-Caribbean father Bradshaw Singh and African-Caribbean mother Jahrine Bailey. She is a student of women’s studies and psychology at US’s Florida State University and aspires to be a medical doctor. She has previously served as the president of Caribbean students association at the university. She is the fourth Jamaican woman to win the coveted beauty pageant. The Caribbean island nation has previously won Miss World titles in 1963, 1976 and 1993 (when Lisa Hanna had represented).
