ITBP deputes First Officer to the newly created Guwahati based Eastern Command

The Indo Tibetan Border Police guards the line of actual control. It has recently posted the first officer to head the newly created Guwauhati based Eastern command.  The ADG Amrit Mohan Prasad has been posted to the Guwahati headquarters of the ITBP.

Eastern command

The Eastern command overlooks the Indo Tibetan Border Police battalion posted along the line of actual control in states such as Assam, Sikkim, arunachal pradesh. The frontiers of the command are located at Lucknow and Itanagar. The new ITBP headquarters of the command was inaugurated recently.

The Eastern command also supervises the Indo Tibetan Border Police Battalion deployed for anti-naxal operations in Chhattisgarh.

About the head

The head appointed is of the Additional directorate General (ADG) rank. This command head was sanctioned by the union government in October 2019. This was done for the better operation. Around 35 to 38 battalion forces are deployed along line of actual control.

Earlier to the appointment of the head the border forces deployed were headed by an IG rank official.

About the new command

The new Eastern command will streamline operations, deployment, Intelligence and administrator movements of the Indo Tibetan Border Police personnel in the border regions. The command will also bring better Synergy with the Army.

Eastern Command is one of the seven operational commands of Indian Army. It is headquartered at Kolkata. The command looks after the international borders with countries such as Bhutan, Nepal, China, Myanmar and Bangladesh. The Eastern command was formed in 1920.
