International Day of Education observed on  24th January

January 24 is observed as the International Day of Education every year by the specialized agency of United Nations named-United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). It celebrates the role of education for global development and peace.  In December 2018, the United Nations (UN) General Assembly adopted a resolution, which declared January 24 as ‘International Day of Education’.  As on to date, 258 million children across the globe fail to attend school while an estimated that around 617 million children cannot read and do basic maths.

The theme for 2020 International Day of Education: LEARNING FOR PEOPLE, PLANET, PROSPERITY, AND PEACE

This year’s celebration is the second-year of observing the day and it has considered Education and Learning as the greatest Renewable Resource and it reaffirms that Education is a Fundamental Right. This year’s celebration with the objective of the theme is to position education and learning as the greatest renewable resource to humanity by focusing on the various ways of learning that can empower People,  preserve the Planet, can build shared Prosperity and will foster Peace.
