Ms. V.S. Ramadevi (79), former Governor of Karnataka and former Chief Election Commissioner of India, passed away.

First woman to became Chief Election Commissioner of India.
Chief Election Commissioner from November 26, 1990 to December 11, 1990.
She was succeeded by T. N. Seshan.
Till date, she is the only woman to hold the post of Chief Election Commissioner of India.
Governor of Himachal Pradesh July 1997 to December 1999
Governor of Karnataka from December 1999 to August 2002
