Indian Railway to implement Modern Train Control System

The entire signaling system of the Indian Railway will be modernized with Modern Train Control System. The Modern Train Control System will be implemented with Long Term Evaluation (LTE) based  Mobile Train Radio Communication System (MTRC) after getting the consent of the Extended Board for Railways (EBR), the think-tank of the government of India-NITI Aayog and approval of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA). The modernization work of the railway signaling system has been included under the 2018-19 Works Programme of Indian Railway at a cost of Rs 77,912 crores.

Earlier in June 2019, the Indian Railways has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the wholly-owned subsidiary of RailTel Corporation of India Ltd, RailTel Enterprises Limited (REL) for the signaling system modernization work in four sections.

The four sections comprise of a total route of 640 Km and will be modernized with a total estimated cost of Rs 1810 Crores as pilot projects.  The four pilot projects will be under the responsibility of REL. The four sections are: on North Central Railway- Jhansi to Bina section, on Central Railways- Nagpur to Badnera section, on South Central Railway- Renigunta to Yerraguntla section and on the East Coast Railway- Vizianagaram to Palasa section.
