India, Tanzania ink five agreements

India and Tanzania have signed five agreements to accelerate bilateral ties between both nations.
These agreements were signed in Dar-es-Salaam in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Tanzanian President John Pombe Joseph Magufuli.
PM Narendra Modi visited Tanzania on the third leg of his four-nation tour of Africa viz. Mozambique, South Africa, Tanzania and Kenya.
Signed Agreements are

  • MoU for Establishment of Vocational Training Centre at Zanzibar
  • MoU on Visa waiver agreement for Diplomatic/Official passport holders
  • MoU on Cooperation in the field of water resource management and development
  • Line of Credit (LoC) of US 92 million dollars for rehabilitation and improvement of water supply system in Zanzibar
  • Agreement on Joint Action Plan (JAP) between National Small Industries Corporation of India (NSIC) and Small Industries Development Organization Tanzania (SIDO).

Besides, PM Narendra Modi and Tanzanian President John Pombe Joseph Magufuli held wide-ranging talks. They agreed to

  • Cooperate in a number of areas, including food security and natural gas sector.
  • Deepen overall defence and security partnership, especially in the maritime domain.
  • Deepen bilateral trade and investment partnership by encouraging greater industry to industry ties.
  • Work closely, bilaterally, regionally and globally to combat the twin threats of terrorism and climate change.
