India exported Organic Products worth Rs 5150.99 crore in 2018-19
The Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Narendra Singh Tomar in a written reply to Lok Sabha on Tuesday, 3rd December 2019 informed that India has exported organic products worth Rs 5150.99 crore in 2018-19.
The organic products are produced under 2 certification system in India- Participatory Guarantee System (PGS) India and the National Programme on Organic Production (NPOP).
Under PGS certification- a total of 25087328.65 quintals of organic products were produced in the country in 2018-19. Maharashtra with 12474318.83 quintals has the highest production under this certification.
Under NPOP certification- a total of 2607384.90 metric tonnes of organic products were produced in the country during 2018-19. Maharashtra with 860976.013 metric tonnes has the highest production under this certification.
The Minister also informed that to further boost organic production, a dedicated web portal has been created for organic farmers that connect them directly with consumers for better prices.
