GoI launches eBlood Services Mobile Application

On June 25, 2020, the Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan launched the eBlood Services Mobile Application. The application was launched by the ministry along with the Indian Red Cross Society.

Highlights

The bank will help in easy access to blood during the current COVID-19 pandemic time. Using the application, an individual can seek blood up to 4 units.

The application was developed by the team C-DAC India.

About the Application

The application will provide information about the availability of blood in the blood banks of Delhi.

Need

On June 24, 2020, 3,788 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in the capital. With this Delhi became the worst hit city in the country. It surpassed Mumbai. Today Delhi is the worst affected of all the four metropolitan cities.

Significance

The Application will help bring transparency in blood donation. This will help increase plasma collection from COVID-19 recovered patients.

Plasma Therapy

Recently on June 12, 2020, the Union Health Ministry issued “Clinical Management Protocol for COVID-19”. The new protocol allowed plasma therapy as a treatment to COVID-19.
