GoI: India accounts to 40% drop in COVID-19

On April 17, 2020 India announced that the growth in COVID-19 cases has decreased by 40%. The Government also says that before lock down, the number of cases doubled in 3 days. However, now it takes 6.2 days for the number of cases to double.

Highlights

After Lock Down the growth rate of the virus has reduced to 1.2% as compared to 2.1% before lock down. This betterment has been observed in 19 states and union territories. They are Uttarakhand, Kerala, Ladakh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Bihar, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Delhi, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Jammu and Kashmir, Tripura and Uttar Pradesh.

The death rates have been registered at 3% and recovery rates have been registered at 3%.

Observations of ICMR

The Indian Council of Medical Research has been noticing mixed of COVID-19 strains as the disease was brought by persons travelling from different parts of the world. Also, ICMR is to begin its study on the efficacy of BCG (Bacille Calmette Guerin) vaccination in COVID-19. This is being done as the study from many countries state that countries with efficient BCG vaccination programme had minimal impacts of the virus.
