Ex-Israeli PM Ariel Sharon "The Bulldozer" passed away

Screenshot_4The iconic but controversial former Israeli Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon (85) passed away after spending eight years in a coma following a stroke.

Known as “The Bulldozer,” a fearless leader who got things done and was one of the most prominent figures in Israel’s history – both on the battlefield and in political life.
When Egypt and Syria launched a surprise attack in 1973, he led a division that cut off Egyptian soldiers on the Sinai Peninsula – a move that helped Israel win the war. The Arab world called Mr. Sharon “the Butcher of Beirut” after he supervised Israel’s 1982 invasion of Lebanon while serving as defence minister.

  • Became Prime Minister in 2001, won the election with a promise to bring peace and security to Israel.
  • Seemed to win re-election when he suffered a succession of strokes in 2005 and 2006.  But, fell into a coma, from which he never recovered.
  • After 8 years in a coma, he died on January 11 in a hospital near Tel Aviv.
