Dogri poetess Padma Sachdev awarded 2015 Krutitava Smagra Samman

Renowned Dogri poetess and writer Padma Sachdev has been awarded prestigious Krutitava Smagra Samman for the year 2015.
She was bestowed with this award for her outstanding contribution in literature and great service to Dogri Language. It was presented to her by West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi.
The award has been instituted by Kolkata based Bharatiya’s Bhasha Parishad and carries an amount of one lakh rupees, a shawl and citation.

About Padma Sachdev

• Padma Sachdev is first modern woman poet of Dogri language. She also writes in Hindi.
• She has published her several poetry collection. Some of her books are Tavi Te Chanhan (1976), Nheriyan Galiyan (1982), Pota Pota Nimbal (1987), Uttar Vahini (1992) and Tainthian (1992).
• Her poetry collection Meri Kavita Mere Geet (My Poems, My Songs) has won the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1971.
• She also has been awarded Padma Shri (2001), India’s 4th highest civilian award and the Kabir Samman for poetry (2007-08) by Government of Madhya Pradesh.

About Dogri language

• Dogri is an Indo-Aryan language spoken in India and Pakistan.
• In India, it is chiefly spoken in states like Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and northern Punjab. Dogri speakers are called Dogras and the Dogri-speaking region is called Duggar.
• It is one of 22 official languages mentioned in the Eighth Schedule of Constitution. It was inserted in this schedule by 92nd Constitutional amendment Act, 2003 along with Maithili, Santali and Bodo.
