Delhi Government begins Sero Survey

The Ministry of Home Affairs had announced that Serological Survey would be conducted across Delhi between June 27, 2020 and July 10, 2020. The survey is collect samples from 20,00 people and test for COVID-19.

Highlights

The survey is to be conducted across 20,000 households in Delhi on a random basis. This will include individuals below 18 years as well. The survey is expected to renew delimitation of containment zones. It will monitor the limits more strictly.

What is Sero Survey?

Sero Survey is testing the blood serum of individuals to detect if a person is infected with COVID-19. In India the COVID-19 sero survey is to be conducted through a test called the “COVID Kavach Elisa”. The test will also identify antibodies that are produced by human bodies to fight COVID-19 virus.

The test kit for the survey was developed by ICMR (Indian Council of Medical Research)-NIV (National Institute of Virology).

COVID Kavach ELISA

The National Institute of Virology developed the first indigenous COVID-19 antibody testing kit COVID Kavach ELISA. The ELISA (Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assant) is an antibody test. It detects for the IgG antibody that is developed in the human body as a counter to the COVID-19 infections.
