September 2, 2009: Justice Bilal Nazki is the new Chief Justice of Orissa Court
JUSTICE BILAL NAZKI, senior most judge of the Bombay High Court has been elevated and appointed as the new Chief Justice of Orissa High Court. Justice Nazki, who belongs to Jammu and Kashmir, has a rich experience as a practising lawyer and being the Judge of three high courts. He has served as judge in Jammu and Kashmir High Court, Andhra Pradesh High Court and Bombay High Court.
August 31, 2009: ISRO Chairman Madhavan Nair elected as president of IAA
Indian Space Research Organisation chairman G. Madhavan Nair has been elected as the president of the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA).
He is the only Indian and the first non-American to head the IAA. Nair’s term as IAA president will be till 2011.
What is IAA?
The IAA was founded in Sweden in 1960 and aims to foster development of astronautics for peaceful purposes. The IAA recognizes individuals who have distinguished themselves in a related branch of science or technology and provide a programme through which members may contribute to international endeavours for the advancement of aerospace science

August 12, 2009: Prof. Vijay Shankar Vyas appointed member of EAC
Prof Vijay Shankar Vyas has been appointed as member of Economic Advisory Council (PMEAC) to the Prime Minister. This council is being headed by Dr C Rangarajan. He will enjoy the status of minister of state.
About Prof Vyas:
Jaipur-based Prof V S Vyas is a former director of Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. He had also served as a senior advisor in agricultural and rural development department of the World Bank. Prof Vyas has been honoured for his academic contribution in India and abroad. He is also a former president of Asian Society of Agriculture Economists as well as the Indian Society of Agricultural Economists. He was a member of the board of trustees of the International Food Policy Research Institution and a member of the governing board of the Institute of Development Studies of the Sussex University, UK.
At home, Prof Vyas has served as a member of the Central Board of the Reserve Bank of India. He has served as chairman and member of many important commissions and committees in India and abroad.
