Hemantha Rao to receive INS outstanding Service Award 2010

  • Nuclear Fuel Complex (NFC) Deputy Chief Executive (Fuels) GVS Hemantha Rao will receive the Outstanding Service Award 2010, conferred by the Indian Nuclear Society. An outstanding scientist, Mr Rao has vast experience in maintenance, project execution and fabrication of fuels used in BWRs and PHWRs and Sub Assemblies for PFBR.

MDMK volunteers destroy film rolls of “DAM 999′

  • Volunteers of Marumalarchi DMK (MDMK) alleged that the film which portrays a dam disaster, was produced only to justify the Kerala Government’s move to destroy the Mullaperiyar dam and build a new one. Thus, MDMK supporters destroyed the rolls of the movie “DAM 999”

India assures Bangladesh on Tipaimukh project

  • India assured Bangladesh that the Tipaimukh hydro-electric project in Manipur will not have an “adverse” impact on it as there will be no diversion of water for irrigation purposes.

  • A fifteen-year contract under Build, Operate & Transfer Scheme (BOT) signed today between Railways and the Sulabh international social organizations service provider with high tech sanitation facilities at the railway stations.

US, UK, Canada announce new sanctions against Iran

  • The United States, the United Kingdom and Canada have announced new sanctions against Iran amid growing concern over its nuclear programme. Tehran insists its nuclear programme is solely for civilian purposes. The report by the UN’s nuclear watchdog, IAEA, said Iran had carried out tests relevant to the development of a nuclear device. But despite the report, Iran was not referred to the UN Security Council because Russia and China were opposed to the move.

335 Anti Human Trafficking Units countrywide soon

  • The Government proposes to establish 335 Anti Human Trafficking Units all over the country. Giving Over two Lakh cases of crime against women were reported in the country during 2010. A majority of states and union territories have set up cells to curb crimes against women. Some of them have also set up Women Police Stations.

Lok Sabha loses four hours, Rs.1 crore, on day one

  • The loss of four hours work in the Lok Sabha due to the bedlam over the opposition’s boycott of Home Minister P. Chidambaram on the first day of parliament’s winter session is estimated to have caused a Rs.1 crore loss to the nation.

Subhash Chandra receives ‘International Emmy Directorate Award’

  • Subhash Chandra, founder of Zee Group and India s first Hindi satellite channel Zee TV, received the 2011 International Emmy Directorate Award . Mr Chandra made history by becoming the first-ever Directorate Award recipient from India. The award was presented at 39th International Emmy Awards, which took place at the Hilton New York in New York City.

Arthur becomes first foreign-born Aussie coach

  • Former South Africa coach Mickey Arthur has become the first foreign-born coach of Australia to oversee the Kangaroo s fortunes.

Artist Sheba Chacchi wins Singapore Signature Art prize

  • Indian artist Sheba Chacchi has been awarded a juror’s choice prize by the Singapore Art Museum (SAM) and Asia Pacific Breweries (APB) Foundation for her work “Water Diviner”.

World Bank projects 8.4 percent growth for China in 2012

  • The World Bank projected a growth of 9.1 percent for China in 2011, followed by a slower growth of 8.4 percent in 2012.
