GST exempted for businesses with annual turnover up to Rs.40 lakh

Union Finance Ministry announced that the businesses with an annual turnover of up to Rs.40 lakh are exempted from GST. This limit earlier stood at Rs.20 lakh. The ministry also announced that those with turnover up to Rs.1.5 crore could opt for Composition Scheme and pay 1% tax.

Motor Vehicle documents validity extended till December 31

The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has extended validity of Motor Vehicle documents until December 31. This latest decision is in response to the pandemic situation within the country.

Centre establishes National Council for Transgender Persons

The Indian government has set up a National Council for Transgender Persons to advice on policies, legislations and projects related to transgender persons. Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment will be the ex-officio chairman and the Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment will be the ex-officio Vice Chairman.

INS Viraat to be sold as scrap

The longest-serving warship is to arrive at the Alang ship-breaking yard in Gujarat in September this year to be broken down and sold as scrap. The ship has served the Indian Navy for three decades.

‘Mission COVID Suraksha’ proposed for development of affordable, safe COVID-19 vaccines

To hasten the development and manufacturing of safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines, the Indian government mulls setting up of a ‘Mission COVID Suraksha’ with a corpus of around Rs.3,000 crore. It is to be piloted by Department of Biotechnology.

Women’s share in NREGS declines to 8-year low

The official data revealed a dip in the share of women in total person-days of MREGS works. Women’s share has declined to an 8-year low of 52.46% during the first 5 months of the current fiscal.

Early Islamic gold coins discovered in Israel

Excavations near the central city of Yavne led to the discovery of a trove of 425 early Islamic gold coins. These coins date back to Abbasid period, around 1,100 years ago. This discovery is one of the largest caches of ancient coins in the Jewish state.
