A unique initiative taken by the 17th Speaker of Lok Sabha, Om Birla for improving the overall efficiency of the lawmakers has been given room no 13, a dedicated room inside the Parliament House Annex. The initiative is a 24/7 call centre that will be assisting the Members of the Parliament who along with managing their constituencies have to juggle in performing their responsibilities related to the Parliament. ‘Information and Communication Centre’ is the name of the call centre that will assist the Members of the Parliament from administrative to functional issues. Started as a pilot project in November 2019, the call centre has been receiving a steady stream of enquiries.
As per media reports, there has been a number of queries related to background research papers on various subjects and travel bills during the last two weeks of the winter session of 2019 of the Parliament. The call centre is initially launched for the Lok Sabha members but is expected to be used in future for providing similar assistance for the Rajya Sabha members.
