Bangabandhu: Political Career
Sheikh Mujbur Rahman was a Bangladeshi politician. He is called the father of Bangladesh. He was the first president of Bangladesh and later he served as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh between 1971 and 1975. He was assassinated in 1975.
At the 1970 election held in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh), Awami League party under the leadership of Bangabandhu won the elections. The Central Government under the leadership of Pakistan People’s Party headed by Zulfikar Ali Bhutto hesitated to provide greater autonomy and other demands of Bangabandhu. This was the base for the 1971 war where India joined hands with Bangladesh.
Bangabandhu wrote two volumes of his autobiography. The books were published by his daughter, the now Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina after his death.
