ADB loan to fund development projects in Tamil Nadu

Asian Development Bank has agreed to lend a loan of 206 million USD to Tamil Nadu for various infrastructure development projects. This is the second component of the ADB supported multi- tranche financing for Tamil Nadu’s Urban Flagship Investment Program. This is worth a total of 500 million USD and was approved in September, 2018. The first component, worth 169 million USD, is already under implementation. The second component is to fund projects in 4 cities: Tiruchy, Ambur, Vellore and Tirupur. The projects include laying of sewerage lines, water supply infrastructure which is climate resilient, drainage infrastructure and also support urban local bodies for efficient service delivery. The project also involves establishment and rehabilitation of sewage treatment plants, pumping station, etc. and also achieving sewage network connections for all households, especially of the below poverty line category. The project aims to achieve universal access to safe water supply and sanitation.
