9th Women Science Congress began on 5th January

During the ongoing 107th edition of the Indian Science Congress, the first day of the 9th edition of Women Science Congress was organized on Sunday, 5th January 2020 at the University of Agricultural Sciences in Bengaluru. The Women Science Congress over the years has been fundamental in highlighting opportunities for women to overcome the hurdle of the gender they face in the field of science.

For active participation of young women in the field of science, this year’s women science congress showcased the achievements of women scientists by encouraging and motivating them through guest lectures, at which remarkable contributions of women scientists were highlighted by Dr. Tessy Thomas, Director General of Aeronautical Systems in DRDO.

Back in 2014, the Department of Science and Technology under the Union Ministry of Science and Technology has launched a women exclusive scheme ‘KIRAN’-Knowledge Involvement in Research Advancement through Nurturing, with the mandate to bring gender parity in the field of Science & Technology. Dr. Namita Gupta, Scientist of Department of Science and Technology highlighted the ‘KIRAN’ scheme.
