• India Celebrates its 65^th Independence Day on August 15, 2011
  

 

Sena medal awarded to 114 Army personnel

3 Army doctors honoured with the Sena Medal
for gallantry
for taking on terrorists and saving the lives of their colleagues during an attack on Indians in Kabul last year A total of 114 Army personnel awarded the Sena Medal for gallantry on Independence Day for their acts of valour in different operations across the country

Platinum Jubilee of Gold Medal Win of Indian Hockey Team celebrated in MP

• To celebrate the platinum jubilee of gold medal win of Indian hockey team in Berlin Olympics on August 15, 1936, a special programme organized in Madhya Pradesh
  
• With this win in 1936, India completed the hat trick of gold medal haul in the Olympics
  
• India won the gold medal in Berlin Olympics on August 15, 1936, in the presence of the then ruler of Germany, Adolf Hitler
  
• Our team had created a world record in hockey by remaining champion from 1928-1959 in the Olympics and the country had not lost a single match during those 31 years
  
• Chief Minister of MP, Shivraj Singh Chouhan honoured hockey players including Olympians at the function organised by the State Sports and Youth Welfare Department
  
• 
  ‘Yaad-e-Berlin Olympic 1936’, a short film screened on the occasion
  
• People who were honoured include hockey Olympians Lieutenant Haripal Kaushik, Inamur Rehman, Aslam Sher Khan, Dhanraj Pillai and Ashok Dhyanchand

  set up after the Second World War
  
• The system fixed the value of the dollar against the value of gold
  
• United States in 1971 left the system due to domestic troubles with high inflation
  
• The moves ignited global economic uncertainty and to oil prices

• Serbian, Novak Djokovic won the Rogers Cup Men’s Singles Tennis Title

• The President confered prestigious Maharshi Badrayan Vyas Samman to 8 scholars in Sanskrit, Persian, Arabic and Pali languages
  
• The distinction is conferred once a year on the Independence Day in recognition of substantial contribution in the field of Sanskrit, Pali/Prakrit, Arabic and Persian
