What is your stance on the issue of nationalism versus the linguistic federalism?
The southern states of India, most notably Tamil Nadu have strongly protested the three-language formula suggested under the New Education Policy as a conspiracy to thrust Hindi on the non-Hindi speaking states. Despite the loud protest there was an increase seen in the number of students in Tamil Nadu who had enrolled themselves for Hindi language courses conducted by the Dakshin Bharat Prachar Sabha which was established by Gandhiji in 1918 to spread Hindi in the southern states. Even migrants to these states have helped in plugging the gap. Indians have a loud love for their vernacular language. There is no doubt that Hindi should not be imposed on any state although there are many other popular ways under which Hindi can spread to these parts of the country. Even students from Hindi states should show their respect for the southern languages by learning them.
